Custom Wall Art

Our house is old....like 100 years old.  There are many things wrong with our house like slanted floors...
but it is our home and it was a blessing from God and I love it!
With that said I have been wanting to do some projects for a while.  Well Labor day weekend I decieded to tackle our piano/dining room by painting and applying board and batten.  I am so exited with how it turned out!!!!  It is still a work in progress but I plan on sharing some of my projects in the next few weeks. :)

Here is a view  with the customized artwork I made.
(Don't you love how the cross ties in too!  Hobby Lobby - Clearance $5.50! ~ score!!!!)
So here is how you can customize some artwork for your walls on the cheap!
I bought 4 pictures that already had the wire detail on them at the dollar store.  I could have just gotten a piece of wood but this way they were already cut so that worked for me.
I then went to JoAnn's and found some scrapbook paper I liked and would match my new walls.
I painted the sides and a small part of the top of the boards brown.
I then used modge podge to attach the scrap book paper onto the boards.  I let it dry overnight and the next night I modge podged the front.  Make sure the paper is tightly glued to the board or you could have bubbles.  Thankfully I only had a few bubbles and they were not very noticeable.
Here is a close up....the wall looks greenish... but it is a tan!  I think they look better in real life then blog land :)!!!!  I attached picture hooks to the back using gorillia glue and I had art that fits my new room.

A little imagination can go a long way!  Don't be afraid to create something for your house...you can always change it if you don't like it!
This project only cost....
$1.00 per board - used 4
paper...less than a dollar per sheet
hooks around $1.00 for a pack
so for under $10.00 I dressed up my wall and am really happy with the results :)

Blessings!

Mini Apple Pie Cups

Fall + apples = delish!

My parents came through town and brought me a bag of apples my dad picked.  So I had to make something good :)  I found a recipe to try at http://asimplyklassichome.blogspot.com/2011/10/31-days-of-simply-homemade-day-29-mini.html  You can find the recipe at her link.

I didn't have any apple juice but I had cranberry so I used that.  Since I was using cranberry juice I added craisins to the apple mixture.  I tripled the recipe for our Life Group tonight and used 2 cups brown sugar total.    I also used 3 tubes of biscuits for a total of 30 pie cups.  I also drizzled with a powder sugar frosting just to dress them up a bit.  They were a thumbs up and I will definately make these again.

I know you want one!!!!

Enjoy!!!!

Twig Wreath

I love looking in "Blog Land" at all the creative people.  I get so many ideas from others creativity.
Here is my inspiration for my latest project (finished last night!)

Isn't she a beauty!

So As I was out in the woods pulling grapevine for some wreaths I brought back some twigs
here is what I did.....

I cut a circle from heavy card board (used a box)
Cut a inside circle and wrapped with twine ~ getting it to stay with hot glue

Then I cut my twigs and hot glued on the circle

I then took smaller twigs and put them around the circle to fill it in and to cover up the hot glue.  I loaded it up with hot glue!!!!
My wreath looks a little wilder then the model!  It's kind of growing on me......
I figure I can always make another one if I figure out I really don't like it :)

So what do you think?  Be honest I can take it....I have kleenex close by :)

Blessings,

Carrot Cake :)

I love the farmers market!  I haven't been able to go to often this summer but went the last 2 weekends.  One of the things they had were GINORMOUS carrots!  I am serious!  So when Jocelyn asked for Carrot Cake for her birthday I knew we were good to go :)

Here is the birthday girl posing with her cake!

Look at all that goodness!

And a little bundt cake blessing to share with another!
Here is the recipe:
I used 1/2 oil and 1/2 applesauce

For Cream Cheese Frosting:
1/4 lb butter (1 stick)
8 oz cream cheese
1 tsp vanillia
1 lb confection sugar
blend first three ingredients and then add sugar
You won't be sorry!

Enjoy :)

Angie's Patch

So I have this friend at work who is known for her grace and poise.....
Here is her picture.........

actually she makes me feel okay about being a klutz...because I am!  In fact I was looking at my thigh and noticed 2 big bruises and have no idea where they came from.  But hey this blog entry  is not about me it's about Angie and she will let me know it's about her....

So she was out walking her dog and took a digger......
but the worse part was she put a hole in her favorite jeans.....
now I know you feel bad for her....
WELL DON'T!!!!
She fixed her little problem and she wanted me to share it with you....

She got a jean patch and her husband drew a flower for her.  (Now she can't complain that he never brings her flowers!!!) and she ironed it on to her jeans....Wala....no more hole and she can still enjoy her favorite jeans!
And here is a close up of her handiwork!

So the moral of the story is anyone can be creative and crafty...
and Angie is the craftiest person I know....
The End!

To celebrate I needed to make a fall recipe so I deceided for our Life Group I would make this yummy cake!   receipe can be found here.........http://recipesrecipesrecipes.wordpress.com/2009/09/15/recipe-of-the-day-apple-sour-cream-bundt-cake/

Look at the middle section!  Doesn't that make your mouth water!
I wanted to make it a little prettier so I added a simple powdered sugar glaze.

Picture This........Jewlery Holder

I don't know about you but it seems when I want to wear a certain pair of earrings it has been.....hmmmmm where did I put those?  Or I've also had the "wow, I don't remember that pair!" experience.  I'm not clutter free and I don't always remember where I put things :)  so in order to minimize frustration I wanted to make something for my hanging earrings....(you know the kind without posts)  I know your so amazed by my technical writing skills :)

I've seen some projects but I had something else in mind so this is what I came up with............

This is what I did:

*What you will need is a frame ( I spray painted and distressed mine and really like the way it looks in my bedroom)
*piece of screen.......I went to my local True Value ~ they had some screening leftovers in the back they gave me for FREE!  They are really nice people!  Sometimes it pays to go local instead of big box stores!
*Material for back - if you want your walls to show through then skip this step.  My walls are white and I wanted something to stand out and look like a piece of art.  I found a remenant of material at JoAnn's ~ very inexpensive!
*Staple gun
I painted the frame ~ attached screen with the staple gun ~ pulled material tight and stapled to the back and had a new, functional piece of art for the bedroom :)

Here it is on the wall with a hook I found at GW....It was a garden hook I use to hang some necklaces on it :)

Let me know what you think!  I love your comments!

Hugs,
Linda
